The best way to generate some real kerbside appeal is a fabulous looking front garden! Anecdotally, estate agents suggest it can add £10K to the value of your property. Here's an example at a terraced house in North London. Previously the front garden was characterised by crazy paving, a dated gas intake enclosure and minimal planting space was available.
Having spoken at length with the client we agreed a scheme where we would remove the dated paving and wall, replace the gas intake box with a more aestheticlaly pleasing semi-submerged box. It quickly became apparent the soil was poor and a skip load of bricks and deritus later we were ready to prepare the soil for planting! We installed a front wall of London stock bricks, a path way of stone-effect concrete blocks, edged off with a course of bricks to tie in with the new front wall. To finish off we planted the front garden with traditional English annuals like foxgloves, hollyhocks, dahlias and gladioli with two rambling roses either side of the bay window. Oh and we even painted the front door with Farrow and Ball 'Cinder Rose' paint to tie in with the roses and original tiles by the front door!
